Tigi Superstar Sulphate Free Shampoo

Posted by Laura | Hair | Saturday 10 March 2012 11:20 am

I love this shampoo and have been using it every time I wash my hair since last June. For me that’s a long time to go without changing hair products as I never used to be particularly loyal to any haircare brand. I started using sulphate free shampoo’s early last year and straight away noticed my hair felt softer and fuller.

I tried a few different brands before discovering the Tigi range which seemed to suit my hair the best of all. The other bonus I found was that I could pick up this massive 750ml bottle for around £12. I bought my last 750ml bottle in June and it’s only just run out now which is  months later! I admittedly only have to wash my hair every other day at most as my hair is dry rather than greasy however my hair is long and thick so I’m amazed it’s lasted that long.

I’ve just managed to get this new bottle from Amazon for £12.45 which I think is about half price. The conditioner is a similar price though I think I’ve got a few months left in the bottle I already have.

My Product of the Year: MoroccanOil

Posted by Laura | Hair,Toiletries | Wednesday 25 January 2012 3:27 pm

I have already done a post on MoroccanOil which you can read here however I thought it well worth another mention as it is definitely my favourite product from 2011. Since discovering MoroccanOil my hair feels so much softer and more manageable. My dry, split ends have practically vanished and I’m finding I can easily go at least 4 months before the ends of my hair even look as though they need a trim.

I’ve just picked up another 100ml bottle up for £28.50 from Amazon which could seem a little pricey however my previous 100ml bottle lasted my 8 months which I think represents really good value for money. I tend to use this every other day and my hair is long and dry so I don’t scrimp on the amount I use so when you consider this costs me £3.50 a month then it certainly seems like a bargain!

Another Home Hair Dye Job: L’Oreal Feria Color

Posted by Laura | Hair | Monday 31 October 2011 3:57 pm

I’ve decided to try more of a copper/auburn shade this time so I thought I’d do dome before and after pictures to show the results. I must admit I had gone into the shops with the intention of buying the same shade I used the time before but once I was there and looking at the huge selection of brands and colours I couldn’t even remember which brand I had used.

I fancied more of a copper/auburn shade so I picked up a shade called Mango Intense Copper from the L’Oreal Feria Color range. The Feria kits are applied to damp hair which I prefer as I find it easier to spread the dye evenly through my hair. As with most of the home hair dye kits the smell is pretty strong but at least this particular one didn’t make my eyes water!

So here are the before and after pictures! I only realised with the second picture (the after picture) that it made far more sense to take a picture of my hair rather than my face as that is what the post is actually about!

My hair had previously been dyed an auburn shade however had faded so much that it looked more of a light brown colour. After my hair definitely lives up to the claim of vibrant colour! This is a very vivid copper shade which I love and have never before managed to achieve with a home hair dye kit. I think for once I’ll actually be keeping the details of this kit so I can pick the same shade up next time. I picked this kit up in Superdrug and I think it was around the £5-6 mark.

Trevor Sorbie Beautiful Curls, Or Not So In My Case!

Posted by Laura | Beauty Tips,Hair,Toiletries | Thursday 13 October 2011 8:00 am

I must admit I don’t often tend to write really negative reviews as a product may not be for me but there are usually some redeeming features where you could see it suiting someone else. Unfortunately with this Trevor Sorbie Beautiful Curls Creme it just didn’t live up to the claims or possibly my expectations.

My hair is quite wavy and is some places I get ringlets however to achieve a natural all over curl I do need a little bit of help with some products.  My hair used to be quite dry and hard to control but with regular use of MoroccanOil my hair is in such better condition and when I leave it to dry naturally it looks quite pretty though the curls drop quite quickly. Hence where a curl product comes in!

I used a small blob on damp hair and then twisted sections to allow it dry naturally. My hope for this was to just help my curls to last longer before falling out and if it worked really well to maybe give me a little extra curl. Unfortunately all I found was that I ended up with quite crispy, dry hair. Even my natural waves and ringlets didn’t really show through and my hair more resembled that of a scarecrow!

I’d picked this up for about £5 in Boots but its not something I shall be buying again. I can usually find some good points in a product but even for girls with really curl hair I fail to see making your hair feel crispy and dry will help the curls stay put.

Guy Kremer Hair Care

Posted by Laura | Beauty Tips,Hair | Friday 7 October 2011 8:00 am

Guy Kremer is one of the latest renowned hairdressers to release their own range of hair care products. Drawing upon on his extensive experience of hair care the range is designed to address the hair concerns seen by most women. The full range contains cleansers, rebalancers and styling products. I’ve been trying a couple of the styling products; the Smoothing Balm and Body Boosting Spray.

The Body Boosting Spray is used on wet hair and then blow dried into shape. I don’t often blow dry my hair as I tend to leave it too dry over  night before straightening it the following morning but for the purpose of testing this product I dug out my hair drier! I used a few liberal squirts of this all over my hair and then used a round brush to help give extra shape. I think my hair definitely had more volume which I’m finding harder to achieve as its getting longer.

I’d say it wasn’t as silky smooth as I can get it with my hair oils but that is probably how the extra volume was achieved. I’m not sure I would choose to use this everyday as I’m not keen on the feel of having product in my hair especially as I only tend to wash it every couple of days but for a special occasion where I’m trying to create an extra special hairstyle then this would be a product I would use. I think if your creating an up-do a bit of this on the roots and a quick blow dry would also work really well.

The second styling product is the Smoothing Balm which again is used on wet hair before styling into the desired shape. The balm has a slight fragrance but nothing too noticeable on your hair. I left my hair to dry naturally with this in and it seemed to control the frizz reasonably well. After straightening my hair the following morning my hair was very silky and did seem to have quite a glossy finish. I’m not 100% sure I would trade my hair oils in for a balm but if a hair care balm is what your after then I think this is a pretty good product. The Smoothing Balm is £8.85 for 125ml and the Body Boosting Spray is £8.95 for 200ml available from the Guy Kremer shop.
