Favourite perfumes

Posted by Laura | Fragrances | Sunday 25 September 2011 9:58 pm

I’m such a girly girl when it comes to perfumes as I love anything sweet and vanilla-ry. I do have a bit of an aversion to anything too floral though so I tend to prefer perfumes with a bit of a musky undertone though of course I’m a sucker for anything with pretty packaging!

1. Princess by Vera Wang: Love this packaging and the purple colour looks so pretty on my dressing table. This has a vanilla fragrance with a musky edge which keeps it from being too sweet.

2. Ghost by Ghost: This is my favourite every day perfume and I always have to get a new bottle when I run out. This is quite a light feminine fragrance with a definite sweet side.

3. Secret Wish by Anna Sui: This was my little Boot’s points treat as I fancied trying something new. This is another sweet fragrance but it has a more fresh, fruity edge compared to so of my other perfumes.

4. Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel: When I got married I picked a new perfume for my wedding day as I wanted to feel a little more glam and this fragrance describes that perfectly. It’s girly but with a grown up, sophisticated edge.

5. Deep Night by Ghost: After starting to use the original Ghost fragrance I stumbled across this one when searching for a richer perfume to wear in the evening.

Looking at the picture of my collection I think it’s quite obvious they are all very girly fragrances just with the pink/purple and fairy type bottles. My Boots points are starting to add up again so I think it’s time I treated myself to another new fragrance!

DKNY Delicious Night

Delicious nightI don’t usually buy any of the fragrances from the Delicious range by DKNY as I find they are too fruity and fresh for my tastes. I do think they are nice fragrances there just not particularly ones that I can imagine wearing all day as my tastes are more sweet and floral as some of my previous posts about fragrances probably suggest!

I have however been trying Delicious Night as I find I quite often like the deeper and woody night fragrances which as the name suggests often make the perfect perfume for a night out. Delicious Night is as expected a woody and seductive fragrance.

It has top notes of ginger and pomelo (a citrus fruit) which initially give it a fresh yet still quite woody scent. These settles down to reveal the floral notes of freesia, orchid and jasmine with undertones of patchouli. After the perfume has settled down the scent left is quite a sweet floral fragrance. Personally I think its quite a nice fragrance but its not quite as rich as the perfumes I would usually use for an evening out.

Eternity Aqua – a Fresh Fragrance for Father’s Day

calvin klein eternity aquaLets face it, us men aren’t renowned for putting a great deal of thought into gifts, but this year I’ve been spending a great deal of time thinking about what to get my father for Father’s Day. Most years a combination of fine wine and chocolates, or taking the old man to watch the football and a few beers has felt sufficient to show him I care.

But, now that I am a daddy and looking forward to my first Father’s Day I’ve had a chance to see it in a new light. It’s not about buying something for the sake of it as a token gesture, but the one day in the whole year that is devoted to showing your father that you care. Does buying the same thing every year really show that you care about him? Hmm, not really!

Ruling out all recent gifts purchased, and those that I know my sisters are thinking of getting him had me really stumped for a while. Sometimes it takes something random to stimulate ideas, and luckily for me that came in the shape of a colleague who was wearing a fragrance that reminded me that my father has worn the same fragrance for as long as I can remember! I’m sure he would appreciate a new fragrance as he has often commented on some of mine.

After trying a few I think I’ve found one he would like that has some very similar notes to his existing fragrance. It’s a new fragrance from Calvin Klein called Eternity Aqua. With woody base notes like his existing fragrance, but very fresh smelling top notes. I think it will be a great new fragrance for him to wear over the summer!

Incidentally, I’m quite a fan of Eternity Aqua as well, and it is Father’s Day coming up, hint hint!

Calvin Klein Eternity Aqua for Men retails for £27.50 for a 30ml bottle, and is available on the high street or online through The Perfume Shop.

Ghost Captivating

ghost captivatingCaptivating by Ghost is the new fragrance launched for 2010. As you will have noticed from my previous posts I’m a big fan of the fragrances from Ghost and I always have a bottle of the original scent on my dressing table so of course I can’t resist trying the new fragrances they bring out each year.

Captivating is available as a fragrance, body lotion and shower gel so you can use the whole range to build up layers of the fragrance.

It is a feminine, elegant fragrance with base notes of sandalwood and musk which gives the fragrance a sensual feel. The top notes are manderin, guava, freesia, rose, magnolia and jasmine which give a floral fragrance with a fruity edge which prevents it becoming overpowering.

As with all the other Ghost fragrances if your a fan of their ranges and like the delicate floral fragrances then this is well worth a try!

Vera Wang Glam Princess

glam princessI haven’t had much of an opportunity to write many posts over the Christmas period with a little baby and the usual festive celebrations! So now its January and we have a lot of cold, dark days I’ve been searching for some new products to brighten up the month.

For my first review of the new year I’ve being trying the new fragrance from Vera Wang, Glam Princess. As you will know from my previous posts I’ve always been a fan of the original Princess fragrance and always have a bottle on the go so I couldn’t resist trying this new limited edition version of the fragrance.

Glam Princess has some of the same notes as the original Princess fragrance including guava and vanilla. However this new scent has been updated with red berries, pear, orange blossom, marshmallow and cashmere wood to give a very glam, flirty fragrance. If you’re a fan of the original Princess fragrance I would definitely recommend trying this one.
