Trish McEvoy Autumn Collection

I don’t often do pictures of the boxes items are sent in the post but this particular package from Trish McEvoy was just so pretty I couldn’t resist! I always try to tell myself the product is more important than the packaging but when it’s this lovely I just can’t help being won over.

So inside the very posh and luxurious box was the new autumn chic and sheer collection which is designed to give the face soft definition. The collection includes a new  fan shaped brush, two eye shadows and a bronzer. The eye shadows and bronzer are all enclosed in this handy and stylish black compact.

The top picture shows the eye shadows in French Vanilla (matte pink shadow) and Soft Grey (matte dove grey shade). The bottom picture shows the Golden Bronzer which gives a natural bronze with just a very slight hint of shimmer. The swatches below are a few coats to give a more intense colour, especially the bronzer which comes out a lot sheerer when applied properly.

I’ve just done a quick swatch of the bronzer on my cheek as I was really pleased with the natural glow it gives. I have really pale skin so bronzers can be hard to wear but this gives my face such a natural finish. It’s actually made me realise the added benefits a little contouring can give to an overall look. I use the new 62 fan brush to apply this as the flat rounded shape seems to deliver just a wisp of colour which is perfect for my skin tone.

I’ve been wear the two eye shadows quite a bit since they arrived earlier in the week so I shall do a FOTD soon including these. I don’t often pick up a matte eye shadow but these colours work so well together and really seem to brighten my eyes. The pink shadow I think would suit anyone and the grey shadow is the perfect colour for blending around the crease of your eye or lining round your lashes.

The deluxe French Vanilla eyeshadow is £18, the Soft Grey eyeshadow is £12, the Golden Bronzer is £22 and the 62 Fan Brush is £28. I think for the quality of the makeup and of course the stunning packaging it’s well worth spending the little extra. Trish McEvoy makeup is available from Selfridges in London and Harvey Nichols.

St Moriz – Possibly Better Than St Tropez!

Posted by Laura | Bronzer,Fake tan,Swatches | Tuesday 23 August 2011 8:00 am

I’ve always seen lots of people rave about St Moriz fake tan and compare it to the famous St Tropez which I love. It’s usually only available in shops like Saver’s and TKMax and unfortunately I’ve  never managed to get hold of it so I started looking online and I found that I could pick it up from Amazon for only £2.99 plus postage. I’ve opted for the regular version rather than the dark formulation as I’m not brave enough for that just yet!

Appearance wise it does remind me of my St Tropez only without the distinctive blue on the packaging. The formulation and application was just the same as my St Tropez and when used with my fake mitt it applied very evenly without any streaks. The colour wasn’t quite as dark as with my St Tropez but it still gave a lovely golden colour which lasted very well. I found it was about 4 days before I wanted to start topping up my tan.

I should really have done before and after pictures but it’s a little late now! The colour is a little more golden than this picture but hopefully you get the idea of how well this works even on pale skin. Considering I paid £24 for my St Tropez and St Moriz is only £2.99 even if it needs a second coat to get the colour you want it’s worth the price difference. I think I’m going to be brave and try to get my hands on the dark version now!

Accessorize Summer 2011 Collection

Picking up an Accessorize blusher the other week reminded me of just how much I love their makeup so I couldn’t resist going back to Superdrug to pick up a few more items from the new Summer 2011 range.

I’ve picked up a bronzer in Bondi, blusher in Scandal and eyeshadow in Maia. I had originally just gone in for another blusher but couldn’t resist trying a new bronzer and the duo eyeshadow just look like such a good combination of colours.

From the left: Two swatches of Bondi bronzer, Scandal blusher, Maia eyeshadow

The bronzer looks great on my pale skin tone as the two shades let me to build up a more natural colour. The palest shade on the left I can use almost as a highlighter whilst the darker shade on the right with a shimmer vein running through the pan gives me a healthy sun kissed glow.

The blusher is one of my most favourite from the Accessorize range and even though it looks quite a dark dusky pink in the pan I think when applied it is more a coral pink. It’s the sort of blush that looks perfect on pale skin in the summer as it has a warmer edge.

The eyeshadow is such an easy little product to use as the white shade gives an iridescent shimmer for a base colour whilst the green colour can be used in the crease or all over the lid to give a stronger colour. The green has bronze swirls running through the pan which helps to give an almost duochrome finish.

I really love the colours and the quality in the Accessorize range plus the price means you can splash out on quit3e a few items! The bronzer is £6, the blusher £5 and and the eyeshadow duo’s are £4.50.

Sue Moxley Shimmer Brick

Posted by Laura | Beauty Tips,Blusher,Bronzer,Swatches | Tuesday 21 June 2011 8:00 am

I had promised myself that I wouldn’t buy any new makeup for a little while as my collection is overflowing however the other day I ended wandering down the makeup aisle in Superdrug which is lethal and I couldn’t resist having a look at the Sue Moxley stand.

I’ve been in need of a new bronzer for a while now however I find that a lot of bronzer’s are a little too dark for my pale skin. When I saw this shimmer brick in Golden Rose on offer for £4.50 instead of £6.50 I couldn’t resist picking it up.

The swatch at the top is the five shades blended together and the bottom is each colour swatched separately. With the pinky tones in this bronzer it makes it a lot easier for me to wear with my plae skin tones. The shimmer helps to perky my skin up and the result is a sun kissed glow rather than an OTT bronzed finish.

Sue Moxley Baked Bronze

Posted by Laura | Beauty Tips,Bronzer,Makeup Base,Swatches | Tuesday 17 May 2011 8:00 am

I’ve been fake tanning quite religiously the past few weeks with all the warm weather so I thought it was about time I picked myself up a bronzer to add some colour to my face as well. I’ve only tried a few products from the Sue Moxley range but I was very impressed with the quality so when I saw these bronzers I couldn’t resist picking one up.

The shiny packaging caught my eye straight away and when you turn the lid over you have a mirror on the other side which is always handy.  The Baked Bronze range immediately reminded me of the Mineralize Skinfinishes by MAC and I’ve seen a few reviews on other beauty blogs comparing the two.

I’ve picked up the palest shade which is called Miami and is more of a golden colour with a shimmer rather than being bronze. I personally think this is more of a highlighter than bronze but it’s lovely none the less. The swatch below shows how well it catches the light though I have been a little heavy handed to get a colour that photographed well.

I’ve been using this along my cheek bones to add to highlight my face and I think it helps make my complexion look more radiant. I’ve been using this alone if I’m going for a natural look just to make my skin look a little more glowy or over my blusher if I’m wearing a little more makeup. The baked bronze are only £6 and available from Superdrug so I think I may well be going back to pick up a few of the darker shades!
